Our Writing Process
We have learned a lot about ourselves and the writing process on this journey. To be able to say, "We wrote a book", really took the cake. To know that there are people, other authors and writers out there that have stories living in their heads that may never see pen to paper. To have completed a story start to finish and see the story out there now in the world for others to see is a huge accomplishment in itself.
I cannot tell you how differently our final first chapter looks compared to our initial first chapter. There have been many changes and revisions, and we could not be happier with our final completed product. But there will always be something that could be updated or changed. But being able to stop and be happy enough to share with others is very exciting.
At first we were rouge, we wrote our first chapter together and had a small idea of how our outline would look, but we pieced together chapters each picking what we were excited to write about in the story. It wasn't until we had several chapters written, that we found that the process wasn't working. We were repeating ideas and concepts and found that it was getting hard to edit, we would often have to go back and change things to ensure continuity.
We stopped writing to rework our plot outline, and came up with what we wanted to share and learn about our characters in each chapter. In looking at how we wanted to move the story along we found there were several gaps that needed to be filled before we could move on. We have hundreds of hours under our belt of rereading and editing our manuscript.
I am more confident moving into our second book that the process will take less time and our quality of writing will be even higher now that we understand each others strengths and where we need to align most in order to create a good story. How important that great structured outline is to our process.
Please enjoy the following excerpt from our book "Yours, Always: An Amber Falls Novel":
“That's better. My dreams are clear when I’m with you.” He reached out to put an arm on her, but she scooted a few inches away, confused.
“What do you mean, Grey?”
“Do you know there are days that you’re the only thing that keeps my world spinning? There hasn’t been a day that has gone by that I haven’t thought of you. Thought of what it would be like to come home to you, to kiss you, to hold you, to make love to you. Whenever I wanted, that you were there, and I could call you mine. There is absolutely nothing I wouldn’t do for you. Tell me what I need to do to call you mine.”
“Oh, Greyson,” Prudence breathed. His hand gripped her hip pulling her closer to him, this time she didn’t resist.
“Prudence, my beautiful girl.”
They looked at each other for a long moment before Greyson slowly lowered his mouth to hers. The soft pressure of his lips on hers was pure bliss. His hand moved from her hip to her backside, pulling her straight against him. She gasped at the contact, at the intimate intrusion of him pushed against her, the short t-shirt doing nothing to cover her. Her legs instinctively parted, and she threw one leg over his hip as Greyson’s tongue plunged into her mouth, sweet bliss giving way to intense passion. She had no clue how much she’d wanted him until this very moment.
Yours, always
